Grand Junction at a glance
Grand Junction is a city in western Colorado, in the Grand Valley, where the Gunnison and the Colorado River meet. Most of what draws visitors lies around the city rather than in it: Colorado National Monument with its 23-mile Rim Rock Drive, the orchards and vineyards of Palisade, the Grand Mesa above the valley and the bike trails and fossil sites near Fruita. Times here are Mountain Time.
This guide covers all of it: the sights, Monument tours and trails, wine country, day trips to Moab and Black Canyon, weather, where to stay and how to get here. Fees are in US dollars and apply in 2026. Check the current figure before you go.

How to use your days
Three things make the region work: an early start, water and a plan for the car.
One day
Drive Rim Rock Drive, which NPS suggests takes at least 1 hour plus stops, then spend the evening Downtown. See the Colorado National Monument guide.
Two to three days
Add Palisade for orchards and wine country and a hike. Fruita and its museum make a good extra stop. The things to do list helps you choose.
A week
Add the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway and a day trip to Black Canyon of the Gunnison or Moab. See day trips from Grand Junction.
