Downtown Grand Junction at a glance
Main Street is the center of downtown. Sculptures stand along the sidewalks, and the Grand Mesa fills the horizon behind the buildings. The Colorado River and Las Colonias Park lie right next to downtown, so a walk can combine street art with the water.
Downtown works well as a stop between trips to the monument, Palisade or Fruita. Local time is Mountain Time. If you plan to visit galleries or shops, check opening hours for each place, because outdoor art is open at different times than indoor venues.

Art on the Corner and Main Street
A changing outdoor sculpture exhibition.
What it is
Art on the Corner is a public sculpture exhibition in downtown. The first show opened on Main Street on 5 August 1984. The pieces change, so the number of works on view is not fixed.
When you can see it
The sculptures are outdoors and open to see all day. That is different from a gallery, which keeps its own hours.
How long to plan
Walk Main Street at your own pace. Add the riverfront if you have more time.

Market on Main in summer
The downtown market is a seasonal event. In 2026 it ran on Thursdays from 9 July to 24 September on Main Street between 3rd and 7th Street. It starts at 5:30 p.m. and runs until dusk, which means roughly 9 p.m. early in the season and about 8 p.m. toward the end. The free live music at the market runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Do not assume that dates carry over to the next year. Check the new season before you plan a trip around it. Outside the summer months there is no Thursday market.
Getting to downtown
By air, rail, bus and car.
From the airport
Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT) is about 5 miles from downtown. Rental cars and local taxi and transfer services serve the airport. Bus route 1 connects downtown, Colorado Mesa University, Horizon Drive and the airport on weekdays and Saturdays. There is no Sunday service.
By train
The Amtrak California Zephyr stops at the station at 339 South 1st Street. The station is separate from the airport, even though both share the code GJT.
Bus fares
A single ride costs $1.50 and a day pass $3.75 in 2026. Transfers are not included in a single ticket.
More detail is on the getting there page.

A day around downtown
A simple plan starts with a morning walk along Main Street to see the sculptures. Continue to the Colorado River and Las Colonias Park, which lies next to downtown, for the riverfront paths. In the afternoon you can drive to the monument or on to Palisade, and in market season you can come back on a Thursday evening.
Mountain Time applies here, so check the clock when you plan connections. Bus route 1 links downtown with the airport, which makes downtown a handy base if you arrive without a car. If you travel by train, the Amtrak station is at 339 South 1st Street.
